How to greet someone as a bartender?

In a more casual place, greet them like you would greet anyone else. Nobody likes to walk into a bar without being recognized by the staff, it's uncomfortable, unwelcoming and gives a bad first impression. That's why, every time customers enter your bar, greet them immediately with a smile and a warm greeting. If the bar is slow, bring them a menu and a glass of water as soon as they sit down. If the bar is full, let them know that you'll be with them shortly.

So pour yourself some carbonated water and something bitter and sit on that stool, the lesson starts now. And, for the love of all things, DON'T STAY IN THE SERVICE AREA. If you're a nice person, you're also kind to the other bar customers. As a result, they have fun and are more likely to return.

On a quiet night there's no excuse for not offering quick service, but on a busy night, if you can't serve a guest right away, acknowledge them and let them know that you'll be seeing them soon. Even if you're very busy, SMILE, make eye contact, and nod your head. We all like to be smiled at.
